Welcome to a new year of enrichment!!!
The 3rd and 4th graders have started the year doing some experiments involving properties of water. In October, we are learning to use the coordinate system. The 4th graders are focusing on longitude and latitude, while the 3rd graders are learning to use a coordinate grid to find locations.
The 5th graders are writing numbers like the Mayans and the Incas. The 5th graders made an Aztec game and then focused on colonial cooking and native foods of the Americas during October.
The 6th graders are exploring the dictionary--finding new words, word orgins, and scientific facts. The 6th graders studied maps of ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt and also studied Babylonian and Egyptian number systems during October.
The 7th graders are discussing and mapping out early European exploration and dispelling some misinformation about the Spanish settlers of the New World. In October, we mapped the Ring of Fire, looked at plate tetonics, and started researching the world's mountain ranges.
The 8th graders are digging deeper into the slavery issue, focusing on the Amistad case and the Dred Scott case. Also, we are studying what is happening in Europe at this time with regards to slavery. In October, we began expanding our knowledge of the sacraments, especially Baptism.
